Eduroam Wi-Fi Setup

Follow the steps below to connect your device to eduroam, the University’s secure Wi-Fi network.

What is Eduroam?

Eduroam (Education Roaming) is a global Wi-Fi service providing secure internet access for students and staff at participating institutions. As a University of Bolton user, you can connect to eduroam on campus and at thousands of locations worldwide using your university login credentials.

Quick Steps to Connect:

To connect to eduroam, follow these general steps:

  • 1️⃣ Open the Wi-Fi settings on your device.
  • 2️⃣ Select eduroam from the available networks.
  • 3️⃣ Enter your University of Bolton username and password. Use your username@bolton.ac.uk as the login.
  • 4️⃣ If prompted, accept the security certificate to complete the connection.

Device Specific Guides

WindowsiPad / iPhoneMac OS

1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar.

2. Select eduroam.

3. Enter your credentials

4. Click Connect.

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Tap Wi-Fi and select eduroam.

3. Enter your credentials (as above).

4. Tap Join and accept the certificate.

1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar.

2. Select eduroam.

Android
  • Open Wi-Fi settings and choose eduroam.
  • Configure the following settings:

    • EAP Method: PEAP
    • Phase 2 Auth: MSCHAPV2
    • CA Certificate: Use system certificates / Do not validate
    • Identity: yourusername@bolton.ac.uk
    • Domain: bolton.ac.uk
    • Anonymous Identity: (leave blank)
    • Password: Your university password
  • Click Connect.

Troubleshooting

  • Can't find eduroam in Wi-Fi list
    1. Make sure your device’s Wi-Fi is turned on.
    2. Check that you are within range of a Wi-Fi access point.
        • If necessary, restart your device and try again.
    3. Incorrect credentials
      1. Double-check your username and password. Your username should be in the format yourusername@bolton.ac.uk.
      2. If you've forgotten your password, you can reset it here.
    4. Unable to connect after selecting eduroam
      1. Ensure that your device is configured to use the correct settings for eduroam (PEAP, MSCHAPV2, and do not validate certificates).
      2. If prompted, accept the certificate to complete the connection.
    5. Network stability issues
      1. Try moving closer to the Wi-Fi access point.
      2. If the issue persists, try reconnecting or restarting your device.
